THE JABRA SUPREME ON TIMES SQUARE

The Jabra Supreme on Times Square New York City

Just a few days ago the Jabra Supreme Wireless Headset designed by me showed on one of the jumbotrons on Times Square. It’s especially exciting for me as I lived in New York the 2000-zeros. Once you’re a ‘new-yorker’ you learn quick to stay away from the Times Square area, but it’s really cool to have something to do with something showing up there, quite unreal actually. Wonder how many people noticed it?

THE JABRA SUPREME

The Jabra Supreme

From an industrial design point of view the Jabra Supreme was a real design challenge: It has a larger electronics-package that soehow has to fit into it’s shape than most other headsets and a flipping boom-arm and a moving ring on the back side for improved ergonomics of the ear hook. All this needed to be packaged into one shape that would work both on the ear and off the ear, when folded. A really feature-packed headset with limitied possibilited for the shape – I tried squeezing the most out of the ID! The ID has its roots in the music/audio-category of products, where inspiration was gathered for the cushion design. The ‘metal’ body itself was inspired by watches, and how the links works on the wrist band.

JABRA SPORT – RUNNING WITHOUT THAT WIRE

Jabra Sport

This wireless concept was first pitched by me in 2008 but became a reality first in 2011. There are competitior with similar concepts out there but this one is unique in the sense that it’s slimmer, thus making sense to wear while runing. The color scheme takes its stand-point in the Jabra sport series of colors: black & yellow.

STYLE THAT STAYS ON

The Jabra Chill, Rythm & Active stereo corded ear buds

Here’s a good innovative way of improvoving ergonomics on smart-phone ear-buds solving the fall-out problem: the Jabra CHILL (left) features a loop pushing the speaker towards the ear canal and thereby fixating it in the ear, and also amplifying the audio, so the product will appear to have better sound. The Jabra RHYTHM (center) is by its in-ear-canal design naturally secure. The Jabra ACTIVE (right), for sports or other more demanding music-lovers, since it has a more powerful speaker, is even more secure by the ear gel design. All buds were designed with flowing shapes, amplifying the ergonomic look.

THE JABRA SUPREME PROMO VIDEO ON YOUTUBE

It’s funny sometimes to see the final product advertizing and especially so when it’s on video. I had nothing to do with the devemopment of this video – only the ID of the product itself. I wonder who is starring as 007 in this video : ) You may check my post of the product ID here.

CHECK OUT THE JABRA SPORT PROMO VIDEO

Here’s the Jabra SPORT promo video. Like the Supreme video, I have no part of its development, but it is for me this video is extremely very entertaining. The fun aside and on a more serious note: to experience an ID project fransition from concept to a final product, is indeed a very self-fullfilling experience.

JABRA WAVE WIRELESS HEADSET: CREATING A SLIM SHAPE BY “INVENTING” DUAL-BATTERIES

The Jabra Wave

When asked to redesign the original BT250 – one of the most successful headsets for Jabra in the past – one is faced with a serious design task: how to make a hearing-aid large behind-the-ear headset look slim and more hip? Especially so when there once was a very similar successor to it, the BT2020.

The solution was found in adding an extra battery – making it possible to slim down the hook as the two batteries in the headset lie in an angle in relation to the curve around the ear.

The result is a very slim hook that practically stays concealed behind the ear. The boom arm sticking out at the end is supposed to give a professional look while also signalling to other people that you might be on a call.

Whether you adore this style of headsets or stay away from them – this one is a significant step forwards in the evolution of wireless headsets.

JABRA FREEWAY WIRELESS SPEAKERPHONE

The Jabra Freeway

This project was all about finding a minimalistic design that would blend well with the environment in the car so the shape was inspired by a sun-visor. IT speaks of minimalism with the clean front face that yet holds quite a few buttons that need to be well separated so the product can promote what it is all about: safer driving when being on the phone. Another key aspect for designing this speakerphone was to promote its excellend audio capabilities, so the speaker grill was designed to have fabric like home hifi stationary speakers.

I’M FEATURED IN A VIDEO ABOUT JABRA…

Jabra decided to have made a short video about who they are where the CEO and VP and ID (me) talk about the company. The format was that I was asked a series of questions and then I tried to asnwer them impromptu. I had to do this several times in my own words, and then the ‘director’ picked the shot he thought was best I suppose.

THE JABRA STONE SHOWCASED AS EXAMPLE OF EXCELLENT DANISH DESIGN

Prince Joachim & Princess Marie checking out the Jabra Stone

Denmark is quite known for design and in 2009 an exhibition was held in Hong Kong to showcase samples excellent Danish Design and the Jabra Stone was there and even got a royal visit by Prince Joachim and his wife princess Marie. See them here checking out the Jabra Stone! From what I heard they stayed a few minutes at the Jabra Podium and had a chat about the Jabra products. I feel like I also have been visited! :-)

INTERVIEW WITH ME ON CRUNCHGEAR & CORE77!

The Jabra Stone on Core77

Crunchgear (today known as TechCrunch), one of the biggest gadget review sites on the WWW decided to run a story with me about the design of the Jabra Stone, read it here! The article figured on front page on October 20th 2009! Following this major Industrial Design network/news site Core77 decided to run an article on their first page, here is the link. This was for me personally bigger than Crunchgear as I frequently visit Core77, and as many other fellow designers.
